Anything Hermanus News Letter

September 2011 Hermanus Newsletter

It's World Cup Rugby time and if you can't get to the land of the long white cloud (AKA New Zealand), take some time out and enjoy eating out, de-stressing, healing, getting fitter and getting closer to nature - all of this in and around Hermanus in September 2011. If you would like to advertise in our newsletter or on our web site or list an event or your business, let us know.

OH-LA-LA – OOLA is new in town!
The name is derived from the saying "oh la la" which is uttered when you are pleasantly surprised or impressed with something and these are the words you'll be saying as you get to the top of the stairs and enter Oola Restaurant and Bar.

Owner Taya Maddock is young, creative and vibrant and she has incorporated her many skills and passion for art, music and good food to create a unique blend of trendy and stylish with warmth and comfort.

Being an artist Taya hasn't been scared to use bright colours and quirky design elements. She refers to the decor as "afro-chic" which I think encapsulates the concept perfectly.

La Femme beauty and wellness centre
La Femme has been in Hermanus for 16 years but it was recently bought by Annaliese Lubowski whose energy and zest for life has helped to revamp, reinvent and re-launch it as an holistic wellness centre that focuses on health and beauty.

Annaliese has retained all the favourite beauty treatments and added a few new ones. I was very excited to hear that she has introduced a facial using the completely natural and organic Just Pure skincare range. Her therapists Chantal and Delmari were both previously at La Femme and bring a wide range of qualifications and experience.

Annaliese has added a completely new dimension to La Femme – a place of healing offering a number of holistic treatments for body and soul. These include Acupressure, Iridology, Reiki, Chakra cleansing, Lomi-lomi, Massage and many more...

The gym will comprise of 1180 square metres, making it the biggest gym in Hermanus and offering the biggest selection of fitness options.

The new space will allow for a new large studio for the quieter and more tranquil classes like pilates and yoga. The Spinning studio will move to a larger air conditioned space where the big screen Virtual Concept will be enhanced.

Die Kloof
If you are looking for a weekend get-away less than an hour from Hermanus to relax and unwind and switch off from the stresses of everyday life then I can highly recommend Die Kloof in Baardskeerdesbos.

I spent a wonderful weekend there with my husband and three kids. It's a two bedroom cottage surrounded by mountains and trees and only the sounds of a gently flowing stream and birds chirping. It was rejuvenating to reconnect with nature, we were even lucky enough to be visited by Bambi while eating breakfast.

The Allied Healthcare Centre
The Allied Healthcare Centre consists of a complementary mix of practitioners offering natural and non-invasive forms of healthcare. The team is made up of Chiropractor Dr Chad Gordon, Claudie Lemoine who is a Nutritional consultant and practices Deep Tissue Massage, Karen Lewis-Thomas who is a natural health practitioner, Ivan Kruger who owns Orthostride and the person in charge of the administration, Annatjie van Graan.

Dr Chad Gordon is a well-respected chiropractor in Hermanus and I have received a number of glowing reports from his patients, including my husband who has been treated by him for back spasms a couple of times. According to Dr Gordon– "Chiropractic is a healthy natural alternative to treating pain and spinal dysfunction through the adjustment of misaligned vertebrae. If spinal vertebrae are misaligned they can pinch and interfere with the nerves and influence the functioning of our nervous system, hence a healthy spine will lead to a healthy well-functioning body."
